Hello! I’m Sarah Ratermann Beahan. I am a writer, creative mystic, rabble-rouser, wonder-stalker and sidequest devotee. I’ve been supporting people using writing and creativity as a healing journey for over two decades. I have a master’s in rural sociology/community development, an MFA in creative writing and am currently pursuing my master’s in mental health counseling at Adler Graduate School (did I mention I love a good sidequest?).
My innate curiosity has led me down the path of studying ALL THE THINGS, but the common thread is that I love people’s stories. Each turn in my path has given me with a chance to listen and hold stories from people of all walks of life: elementary school students, unhoused adults, cancer patients, first generation college students, hospice nurses, grieving families and women navigating midlife overwhelm. Those experiences have taught me to listen generously, to know that there is treasure in the dark corners of our psyche, to not look away from the ugly cry and to celebrate the wins.
I approach therapy from a relational, feminist, and person-centered framework. In plain language that means I believe we heal through authentic connection when we feel safe, seen and supported. Therapy with me might include incorporating expressive arts, narrative therapy, ritual, nature-based mindfulness and ancestral wisdom for those interested. Because our lives are shaped by pervasive systems of oppression, we won’t forget to look at the bigger picture. I offer a supportive environment to explore how these external structures impact your personal experiences and well-being.
I love a good hike with my doggo, cooking and eating with my partner, reading with my cat, long chats with my framily and friends and exploring the world.
