Kelly Evans created Down to Earth Therapy with the idea that people want an authentic and real connection with others, including their therapist. Kelly believes therapy should be accessible for all and welcomes clients of all backgrounds, belief systems, and identities. Kelly is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist with over fifteen years of experience. At this time, Kelly is primarily working with couples and adult families.
Kelly approaches therapy with an open, curious, and non-judgmental stance, viewing you as the expert on your life. Kelly believes therapy is more than simply listening. She will actively listen, reflect, and challenge you/your relationship to grow. Kelly will see your strengths and help you build on them. She believes through a safe and trusting partnership – change can happen. When meeting with Kelly you can expect to be heard, understood, and met with compassion as well as direct feedback. Kelly values authenticity in relationships and will work to create a safe, open, and honest partnership with you and/or your family. Kelly is committed to social justice work starting with looking inward. She is active and engaged in learning/unlearning, cultural responsiveness, and dismantling white supremacy.
Kelly’s experience includes working in outpatient therapy with individuals, couples, and families for over 12 years. Before that, she was providing individual and family therapy to children, teenagers, and their parents in their homes. Kelly also has worked with people with traumatic brain injuries and their families and caregivers. She worked with men who struggle with issues of sexuality both individually and in group therapy settings. Kelly is skilled and experienced working with people who struggle with co-occurring mental illness and chemical dependency. She has many years of experience helping people with their relationships, healing trauma, and increased self-awareness. Kelly is certified in Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) used to help people heal from trauma, phobias, and other chronic conditions using bilateral eye movements. Kelly holds an additional certification in Grief Counseling.
Kelly loves working with families of all kinds and is experienced with bringing families together, even after years of conflict and helping people heal in their relationships.
Kelly Evans earned a Masters degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from Argosy University and is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist. She is a Clinical Fellow with the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapy and a member of Minnesota Association of Marriage and Family Therapy. Kelly is an AAMFT and Minnesota Board-Approved Clinical Supervisor and also enjoys offering supervision to therapists in training and consulting with other supervisors.
On a personal note, Kelly is a parent and partner. She loves to spend time with her family outdoors. Kelly loves the beach and the mountains. She enjoys all kinds of music. Kelly grew up in Upstate NY and moved to the Midwest at the end of high school.
